Direct mail, postcards, email new letters, road shows, blogs and online ads are some of staples of traditional and contemporary lead generation. Adding a webcast as part of your lead generation program is an excellent way to boost your leads at a very affordable cost per lead.

Direct Mail Versus An Informative Webcast.

Direct mail is a tried and true marketing tool for generating sales leads with well known metrics for ROI measurement. If you are concerned about lead quantity, cost per lead and quality of lead then you are about to get a whole new tool added to your marketing arsenal. Here are some sample numbers for a targeted direct mail campaign. Obviously your prices may vary from our example so we encourage you to do your own comparison based upon your actual costs. In our example, we would send out 5000 post cards (color) to a targeted list we rented. The net result is a respectable $33.33 per lead.

  • 5,000 postcard mailing to a targeted list
  • List rental = .045 per record for total of $225
  • Printing and postage $2314 • Total = $2539
  • Expected return of 1.5% = 75 • Cost per lead = $33.33

Now we will change the equation and compare apples to oranges. Yes, direct mail will not stack up and we are not saying you should drop direct mail. We are merely pointing out how utilization of an informative webcast as the central point of a lead generation program creates more leads at better quality and at a lower price than what direct mail offers.

  • 1000 Google Adwords click through to registration page = $1100
  • Email to existing prospect 2000 names = $0
  • Live Audio Webcast event with slides, Q&A and registration for 250 attendees = $1000
  • Total = $2100
  • Registration expectations = 750
  • Attendee expectations = 250
  • Cost per lead = $8.40

In this scenario, we compared a direct mail campaign costing $2100 versus a webcast campaign costing $2314. We did not include media and art production as both methods will require similar expenses (the webcast would be lower). In the end, a webcast produced a lower cost per lead.
